Ghostbusters 3 | Dan Aykroyd confirms Bill Murray's return |
Franchise co-creator says new film retains DNA from feature films
Now it's official: Bill Murray is in the cast of Ghostbusters 3. Peter Venkman's return has been confirmed by none other than Dan Aykroyd, co-creator of the franchise and one of four original ghostbusters.
In an interview with The Greg Hill Show podcast, Aykroyd stated that Jason Reitman has written an exciting script that carries the DNA of the original feature films, before confirming that he, Murray, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts have recorded their scenes alongside the new cast, which includes Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon.
In addition, the actor also said that the new feature will pay tribute to Harold Ramis, who lived Egon Spangler in the original films but passed away in 2014.
Unlike the 2016 movie, Ghostbusters 3 will be a direct continuation of the original films and has the return of Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett. The plot will focus on a new family: Carrie Coon will be the single mother of the characters of Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace. Paul Rudd plays a teacher in a small town. New cast names include Celeste O'Connor (Perfect for You) and newcomer Logan Kim.
Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, directs the new film, which is scheduled for release July 10, 2020.
