Following the success of previous number one single "Not Afraid", "Love The Way You Lie" has been a huge success as well both critically and commercially already reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100. This unique collaboration showcases a different side of the rapper we love.
As soon as the song opens with the Rihanna sung chorus, the listener will learn quickly that the song is about the hurt that one feels, about how they love the lies that the other tells. The track would have sounded just fine with only Eminem's vocals, who raps the song like it is not hard one bit, but Rihanna's emotion filled vocals add a little spark that allows the song to reach its full potential of being a number one hit.
When Eminem sings you will be able to notice that he might actually be hurting from whatever is causing him pain, something that we are not use to seeeing from the rapper, but towards the end of the track the old Slim Shady returns as he raps that he is going to "tie her to the bed and set this house on fire". Scary, but great lyric. The song works as a whole. Together Eminem and Rihanna, a shocking collaboration, have created a song that they both can add to their list of hits.
With his album "Recovery", Eminem proves that he is back and stronger than ever. "Love The Way You Lie" is just another example of why he is considered the greatest rapper of our generation. From the delivery of his rap, to the heartfelt chorus by Rihanna that will surely have you singing along, this second single was an excellent choice.
