Bebe Rexha's "Gone" - Single Review

The beautiful and edgy Bebe Rexha is primarily known for co-writing megahit "The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna early this year and for fronting Pete Wentz' side project Black Cards, but thanks to catchy numbers including "I Can't Stop Drinking About You", the upcoming solo artist appears to have a bright pop music career in front of her.

For Rexha's next official offering, the artist has shared the haunting, piano-driven ballad "Gone", a raw, emotional plea detailing the troubles of a relationship and the feelings that come with its unfortunate end. "Somewhere fear took all control, that's when I turned cold, won't you give me one more chance," she begs on the solid verses just before the soaring chorus comes into play and makes a valid case for Rexha's well-deserved future success.

At times, the vocals of the young artist come off sounding like those of the fiery Neon Hitch, and thankfully she lets those fragile, soaring vocals do all the heavy lifting on the newly released single. "Gone" succeeds thanks to the stripped back production, Rexha's impressive delivery and a touching, heartbreaking message of lost love. Most of her work has been lowered to that of just a songwriter or featured vocalist, but this new ballad will be the start of much more.

"Gone" is yet another mid-tempo, somber ballad (yes, we have heard the same recycled story and formula many times), but Rexha's offering is unlike any other. The perfect blend of soft strings and piano turn out to be the right fit for a sure-to-be critically-acclaimed performance. It is a delicate ballad tailored for Top 40 radio and one that screams for attention for all the right reasons.
